Alexandra intersection improvement ideas open for scrutiny
Alexandra people are invited to check out two options to improve the State
Highway 8 and 85 intersection within the town, at a public information day on
Monday 5 May.
Transit
New Zealand
is inviting locals to the offices of Opus International Consultants on the
ground floor of the Tarbert Buildings,
69 Tarbert Street
Alexandra from 11am until 6pm
Transit area engineer John Jarvis says the two options being considered are a
single lane roundabout at a cost of $480,000, or two phase traffic signals
estimated to cost $400,000.
"Traffic engineers will be on hand to explain the benefits of each option,
including a computerised micro simulation and preliminary plans."
John says public input is an important part of this project.
"This project will not only affect motorists, but also pedestrians and
cyclists at this busy down town intersection."
Members of the public will be invited to share their thoughts by
completing feedback forms if they wish. Once the feedback is collated, a final
report will be prepared so design work can go ahead on the recommended option.
"Subject to funding approvals, construction is planned for the
financial year 2009/10."
